What Drives Us
K & D wants to develop beautiful foodscapes for everyone. We hope that our passion for growing food in unique landscape designs will inspire everyone to eat healthy and have a greater appreciation for the environment. We hope to educate our customers on sustainable practices. K & D will work hard to tailor a plan for each person or business that best suits their food needs in an effort to re-connect people to the food they grow and eat.
Kim Groce
Loving all aspects of food, I am the ultimate “foodie”. It all started working with my father as a child learning all about seeds, soil, spacing, planting and weeding. It was the ultimate lesson in patience seeing which of my plantings ended up growing and which ones failed.
Sharing the bounty of our harvests with our neighbors showed me the value of community. Over the next 30 years I further developed my love and connection to gardening, cooking and canning.
In 2012 I took this passion to a new plateau by obtaining approval for the creation of a community garden at the community college I work at as a counselor. It turned out to be a great success, bringing both students and staff together in the growing project. From the phenomenal success of the community garden it was not long before I began also teaching Farm & Harvest Management in the Culinary Arts Department. With over 50 volunteers and having hosted multiple events through the program expanded to include honey bees and 57 varieties of of plants herbs and edible flowers.
Last December all this culminated into an inspiring conversation my husband and I had, the idea was to combine our experience and passion for gardening into an opportunity to help others become educated about community, sustainability, and eating local by growing their own food.
Darryl Groce
Having married a “foodie” it didn’t take long before I too became an amateur gourmet. She regularly introduced new foods, plants, and a joy for gardening into our family, and in turn I have learned to share her passion for them over the years. I have a particular expertise in lawn and soil maintenance which makes our partnership in the business a match made in heaven. From using only natural weed killers and nutrients to understanding a wide variety of soil types and how to amend them to create the perfect growing environment, we maintain a strong focus on using this platform as a way to espouse a healthy lifestyle, community and to educate on safe and sustainable gardening techniques.
